Description
This is a clamp and bracket adapter to interface with and mount a Loc-Line 2.5" Vacuum Adapter to a drill press with a 3" DIAMETER MAIN POST. The Loc-Line vacuum adapter and hose, as well as the bolts, nuts, washers, lock washers and knobs would need to be purchased/acquired separately. This assembly is designed to tighten, loosen, pivot and rotate fairly easily by loosening/tightening the two knobs with only a minimal amount of force. There is no need to over-tighten the knobs. It is also designed to be durable and rigid, so that the Loc-Line segmented vacuum hose can be adjusted without breaking the clamp or bracket. This is a very useful addition to your drill press for vacuuming sawdust and shavings when drilling. It works well. My drill press is an old Central Machinery model (Harbor freight). I don't know how common the 3" diameter of the main post is. It wouldn't be too difficult to modify the clamp diameter for a differing post diameter. In some ways, the Spacer and Bracket 2 (see diagram) are optional -- they are mainly there for added strength and rigidity, mentioned above.
Materials and methods
Post-Printing:
You will need to purchase/acquire the knobs, bolts, nuts, washers, lock washers, and the Loc-Line hose pieces as needed. This assembly is designed to be durable and rigid. However, it will probably be sufficiently strong to only use one bracket, and to omit the spacer and second bracket; doing this would change the lengths of some of the bolts being used. I used 1/4" 20T hardware. The knobs are available from many sources, both online and from some hardware stores. As with most 3D prints, there may be some light sanding to clean up sharp edges and extra printing gunk.
How I Designed This:
I saw functionally similar designs on the internet, some of which used various Loc-Line pieces. I was going to make one out of wood, but during the early design phase, I decided that a 3-D printed clamp & bracket would be more compact and durable. Also the increased flexibility of a plastic bracket would work better for clamping. It actually clamps better than what I initially hoped for. This is because the design is specifically tailored for my drill press' 3" diameter main post.
