My mom and her freaky good Galaga skilz

A real life version of the hero spaceship from the classic arcade game Galaga! It flashes and even plays music from the original game! What's not to love? I made this for my mom's birthday so she could relive the glory of having the high score at every arcade within 1000 miles of her college campus. Check out for more detailed design files and information on the the electronics and code. I ended up implementing a slightly different light pattern than shown in the video. Feel free to drop me a message at my username @ if you need any help - I have more stuff on my hard drive than I posted.

Materials and methods

It goes together pretty easily. The final board was built on a perfboard and I used KiCad mostly just as a planning tool so the traces will probably need to be cleaned up if you're going to send it to oshpark or a similar service. I used hot glue to assemble everything because my printer's tolerance isn't great.

I used translucent red and plain white filaments from Ultimachine.
