Description
I printed out a few fan shrouds and they either cracked, melted or both. The original shroud is made out of metal (stainless), but I made mine out of copper because it was easy to bend. You can also use aluminum or mild steel. I'd avoid galvanized because it can emit toxins when heated to high temps.
I am working on flattening the UM2+ shroud. I'll try to post that up when I am done...A new one is $40+shipping.
Materials and methods
You can make this out of any metal thin enough to work. I used a hand brake and some wood blocks to make the bends. The original SS one is about 1mm thick. If you have difficulties making the tight bends, perforate the sheet at the bends. Then seal up with high temp silicone.
Copper or aluminum flashing (metal to go against house where wall meets roof etc) is about the right thickness & malleability for this part.
The attached DXF vectors is designed to be CNC routed or milled. Adjust screw hole sizes as needed. You'll need a smaller cutter to make the cuts. I used either a 1/32 or 1/16" end mill, 1mm or 2mm in metrique.
