My advice would be to replace the axis with an aluminium rod and adapt the picavet to hold the line on metal rings. Included the .step to modify.

This thing has not been tested in the wild....

Result:: Good design, some adjustment were needed.
Feedback:: Maybe a Geneva wheel would be a good option for the rotation, so allowing a step by step movement. Just my two cents.
