Add these to the Z-axis 8mm rods, and the hot-end won't be able to crash into the build platform, irrespective of software or sensor errors.

Description

I designed this after getting gashes in the PEI overlay on my glass bed. The clips should be short enough to allow homing, but tall enough to prevent the bed moving higher than essential. 5mm works well for me.

To adjust the height for your machine, just scale the z-axis in your slicer.
