When the United States entered World War I, taxes increased significantly, but even then the average rate did not exceed 15%. In the following decades, tax rates changed, but never returned to the level from before World War I. During and after the peak of World War II, the highest tax threshold exceeded 90% (however, the real rate - after taking into account the deductions - "only" 70%).
