Herringbone Rack and Pinion for Servo
I made these in order to animate projects that use servos. I use the Hummingbird Duo microcontroller.

I remixed the rack and pinion from Alexander Pruss (apruss on Thingiverse), who remixed it from jannsen86.
Description
I made two racks, one of which might suit your project better. Each has its own brace style. The pinion stays put on the servo without a screw. You can see an early attempt in this quick video:
Materials and methods
I printed these at low quality without support on my Ultimaker 2+, and they work well.
