Description
I picked a random bottle opener design (by leemes; attribution link below) which I flattened using a simple OpenSCAD script which projects the model down to 2D. (OpenSCAD is my go-to tool for modeling and model processing.) I then cut it in 10 mm acrylic using the Redsail CM1490 laser cutter at Stockholm Makerspace.
Materials and methods
-OpenSCAD
-10 mm acrylic sheet
-Redsail CM1490 laser cutter
-Autolaser
Since laser cutting tends to subtract excessive material from the model, unlike 3D printing which tends to add excessive material, the resulting place for the cap was slightly too big whereas it would probably be perfect when 3D printed as described by leemes. That said, the opener works ok and I expect it to last longer than a 3D printed model since it's cut from a solid piece of material. If this would turn out to be a problem for you, try scaling down the size of the model to 97-99% of the original size. (Suitable DXF files included.)
For users of any legacy measurement systems which may be in use in some parts of the world, please note that the included DXF is specified in millimeters (mm).
